Date: Friday, June 13
Time: Be at Decorative Stitch by 10:00am
Transportation: School bus (Please note: no air conditioning)
Cost: $45 (includes round-trip travel, museum admission, and bottled water on the bus)
Join us for a creative and inspiring day at the Detroit Institute of Arts!
We'll start with a guided tour of "Painted with Silk: The Art of Early American Embroidery," which showcases beautiful examples of embroidery made by schoolgirls between the 1600s and 1830s. These works were more than just decoration—they represented education, skill, and social values. The exhibit also includes modern pieces by artist Elaine Reichek, who reinterprets this traditional art to reflect on issues of gender, class, and race.
We’ll also visit the iconic Rivera Court, home to Diego Rivera’s world-famous Detroit Industry Murals.
Meet back at the bus by 4:00 PM for the return trip.
This trip is a great chance to connect with art, history, and community—field trip style!
