M2M Leggings!!

I made pants, aka leggings! Ok, this may not be earth shattering to you – but for me, a major milestone!

I recently attended a retreat that Baby Lock hosts for industry professionals each year called Common Threads. The Baby Lock team brings in writers, publishers, fabric designers, bloggers, “personalities” and many others for 3 days of learning, connecting and fun. It really is the most fun work trip I take all year because everything is set up, taught, cleaned up and thought out ahead… by someone other than me! I get to just go, sew and learn – it is heavenly! Oh, and hang out with a bunch of my friends, the best!

This year, Mallory and Zede of The Self Sewn Wardrobe and www.sewhere.com taught their famous Made to Measure Leggings class. We all teamed up, took each other’s measurements and drafted our own patterns. My measurement buddies? None other than Quilter Extraordinaire Pat Sloan and Patty Young of Mod Kid, how cool is that?

I’ve never made pants, for me. A few years back, I made a pair as a sample for a fabric company, but they didn’t have to fit anyone and they were OK. I’m a quilter at a heart and the idea of having to fit a garment to a body, especially my curvy one, literally makes my heart flutter. Well, if Mallory the garment sewer was able to make a quilted project to be a guest with me on Love of Quilting, I can make a simple pair of leggings, right?

Yes! Following their amazing instructions, I was able to create my own pattern custom to my body. I created my first “Sloper”, the “Modified my Sloper”… words I never thought I would say! The leggings turned out adorable, the perfect length, not too tight, not cutting me in half at the waist. There were 50 of us in class, including men, and everybody ended up with custom leggings to fit that look and feel fabulous!! Kindly, Riley Blake provided an assortment of their glorious knits to choose from, I used a cute print from a collection created by the two Elizabeth’s of at Simple Simon and Company.

Guess what, you too can make leggings to fit! To find out more about Mallory and Zede and their Made to Measure leggings here: www.sewhere.com

Try it, you are sure to love your comfy and flattering new wardrobe staple!
