AccuQuilt GoMe!
Do you AccuQuilt? That is the tag line I see on so many AccuQuilt ads and I totally get it now! I’m kind of a new AccuQuilt convert…. Recently, I have been appreciating the speed and accuracy of cutting on this wonderful machine and I am really getting the hang of figuring out which die I can use to cut out my quilts.
Aside from cutting out pieces for quilts, I love all of the different shapes and animal dies! AccuQuilt recently launched a new cutting machine called the GoMe! And it is perfect for inspiring younger sewers. It comes packaged with a few dies, including an adorable owl with a kit to put it together.
I took home the GoMe! And let my 7 & 9 year old daughters go crazy with it. We cut out the felt owl kit, experimented with cutting the puppy die out of Shannon Cuddle fabric and then got creative with the shapes. Gracie discovered that an upside down owl becomes a fun monster! I love how easy and safe cutting is with this system. I talked with my girls about not running their fingers over the dies and how to layer fabrics with the mat. After our quick safety lesson, I let their imaginations run wild!
Working on smaller stuffies is a new technique for my girls. I let them play with stitches and create their own construction techniques. I try not to inhibit their creative expression when it comes to sewing. While sometimes the stitches look a little “messy” we learn from each project we sew. When they ask me how to fix things, I work with them on improving their techniques. For us, this approach keeps stress level low and the fun meter high in our sewing studio. So much of my sewing time is dedicated to work, it’s nice to have simple, creative projects like this that I can share with my kids.
Do you have any budding crafters or sewers in your life? With the Holiday season fast approaching, I think this could be an awesome gift. My kids are getting to the point where they are growing out of toys and stuffed animals, but are too young for the tech gifts on the market. I think it’s going to be an AccuQuilt Christmas at my house! New dies to play with, assorted fabrics for the animals and monsters, trims and buttons for eyes, even extra mats would make great stocking stuffers!
If you already have an AccuQuilt, I’d love to see how you’ve been creative with the fun dies. If you haven’t purchased one yet, be sure to stop by and check it out at Decorative Stitch in Shelby Township, Michigan or on-line at www.decorativestitch.com!
